Located in Springfield Central, minutes from the Greater Springfield and Amberley defence community, SmartCare offers a practical alternative to private emergency departments for appropriate non‑life‑threatening urgent conditions.
Emergency Specialist Assessment in Springfield Central
Emergency Specialist urgent care for Defence personnel, veterans and their families.
SmartCare UrgentCare provides Emergency Specialist urgent care with on‑site CT, X‑ray, point‑of‑care ultrasound and pathology, allowing rapid diagnosis and treatment in a single visit. Our service is designed for time‑sensitive medical problems that require urgent assessment but do not require hospital admission.
Emergency Specialist Urgent Care
At SmartCare UrgentCare you are assessed by Emergency Specialists, not a general practice clinic.
Our model focuses on rapid clinical assessment, immediate access to imaging and clear decision-making, allowing many patients to receive diagnosis and treatment during the same visit.
This approach reduces delays, avoids multiple appointments and helps patients access appropriate care sooner.
Designed for the Defence Community
Greater Springfield and Ipswich are home to a large defence community, including families connected to RAAF Base Amberley.
Defence personnel and veterans often require healthcare that is:
- Rapid and efficient
- Clinically decisive
- Supported by diagnostic imaging
- Coordinated with existing GP or veteran care providers
SmartCare UrgentCare is designed to meet these needs through Emergency Specialist assessment and integrated diagnostics.
DVA and Enlisted Personnel
SmartCare UrgentCare supports enlisted personnel as well as eligible DVA Gold Card and White Card holders.
Where applicable:
- Consultations and approved services can be billed directly to DVA and Medicare for eligible conditions
- Facility fees are currently waived for eligible DVA patients and enlisted personnel.
Please inform reception if you hold a DVA Gold, White Card, or if you are currently enlisted, when you arrive.
Rapid On-Site Diagnostics
SmartCare Diagnostics is co-located with UrgentCare, allowing same-visit investigation and treatment planning.
Available services include:
- CT scanning
- X-ray imaging
- Point-of-care ultrasound
- Pathology and blood testing
- ECG and cardiac monitoring
This allows many patients to move from assessment to diagnosis and treatment in one visit, reducing the need for hospital attendance or multiple appointments.
Common Reasons Defence Personnel and Veterans Visit
UrgentCare is designed for conditions that require medical review within hours rather than days.
Common presentations include:
- Suspected fractures, sprains and musculoskeletal injuries
- Training and sports injuries
- Wounds requiring suturing or procedural care
- Non‑life‑threatening chest pain requiring urgent assessment
- Acute infections or illness requiring investigation
- Sudden back pain or abdominal pain
- Burns, lacerations and soft tissue injuries
If you are unsure whether your condition is appropriate for urgent care, our team can help guide you.
Clinical Leadership with Defence Experience
Our Chief Medical Officer served as an Army Medical Officer, providing firsthand experience with the health challenges faced by serving members and veterans.
This background supports:
- Understanding of operational injuries
- Management of musculoskeletal and trauma presentations
- Clear communication and respectful care for the defence community
Many veterans value being treated by clinicians who understand the demands of military service.
Shared Care with Your GP or Veteran Doctor
SmartCare UrgentCare complements the care provided by your GP, AVHS clinic or veteran healthcare provider.
After your visit we provide:
- Clinical summaries
- Investigation results
- Treatment details
This ensures your regular doctor remains informed and your ongoing care stays coordinated.
