When to see us for treatment
The below symptoms may indicate the need for fever treatment at our clinic:
- High fever (39 degrees or higher) for more than a few days
- Headaches
- Rapid heart rate
- Severe fatigue
- Skin rash
- Fever after overseas travel
Assessment of fever, viral illness, or fever after overseas travel. On-site testing (bloods, imaging, pathology) ensures rapid diagnosis and management.
High fever with confusion, rash, or breathing difficulty should be managed in a hospital.
Types of fevers
Viral Fevers
Caused by viral infections such as the common cold, influenza, and COVID-19, and are typically mild to moderate in severity.
Bacterial Fevers
Caused by bacterial infections such as strep throat, urinary tract infections (UTIs), and bacterial pneumonia, and can be moderate to high severity.
Parasitic Fever
Caused by infections such as malaria and typhoid fever, and may be associated with specific travel histories or exposures to contaminated food and water.
Autoimmune Fevers
Autoimmune disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and inflammatory bowel disease can cause either recurrent or chronic fevers.
Drug-Induced Fevers
Certain medications like antibiotics or chemotherapy drugs can cause fevers as a side effect which may occur shortly after starting medication or gradually develop over time.
Environmental Fevers
Exposure to extreme heat (heatstroke) or cold (hypothermia) can lead to fevers as the body’s temperature regulation mechanisms are disrupted.
Services we provide
Evaluation and Assessment
We will review your medical history, perform a physical examination, and may order diagnostic tests to determine the cause of your fever and develop a treatment plan.
Fever Management
Depending on the cause and severity of your fever, we may recommend fever-reducing medications to help lower your body temperature and alleviate discomfort.
Fluid Replacement Therapy
Fever can lead to increased fluid loss through sweating, increasing the risk of dehydration. Our clinic offers fluid replacement therapy to replenish lost fluids and electrolytes.
Underlying Infection Treatment
If your fever is caused by an infection, we may prescribe antibiotics, antiviral medications, or other appropriate treatments as necessary.
Monitoring and Follow-up Care
If necessary, we offer follow-up care to assess your response to treatment, monitor symptoms, and address any concerns or complications.
Prompt care is essential when experiencing fevers, whether mild or severe. At SmartCare UrgentCare, we prioritise caring for patients quickly and efficiently to ensure timely treatment.
