Services we provide
Pain Management
When you visit us, we may offer pain management medications depending on the severity of your migraine to try and alleviate pain.
Evaluation and Diagnosis
We will assess your symptoms, review your medical history, and order diagnostic tests as necessary to confirm your diagnosis and determine the best treatment.
Intravenous (IV) Therapy
For severe migraines that do not respond to oral medications or require rapid relief, we provide IV therapy to administer fluids, electrolytes, and medications directly to the bloodstream, hopefully alleviating symptoms quickly.
Management Plan
Depending on your diagnosis and the cause of your migraine, our healthcare providers will work with you to develop a personalised management plan tailored to your specific needs to help reduce the frequency and severity of migraine attacks.
Referral to Specialists
If your migraines are chronic or refractory (do not respond to typical treatments), we can refer you to specialists for further evaluation and management.
Causes of migraines
Genetic Predisposition
People with a family history of migraines are more likely to experience migraines themselves.
Neurological Dysfunction
Migraines are thought to involve abnormal brain activity, including changes in the levels of neurotransmitters, which play a role in regulating pain pathways and blood vessel function.
Triggers
Migraine attacks can be triggered by various factors, including certain foods and beverages (aged cheeses, chocolate, caffeine, and alcohol), hormonal changes (menstruation or hormonal contraception), environmental factors (weather changes, bright lights, or strong odours), stress, lack of sleep, or physical exertion.
Sensory Sensitivity
Individuals with migraines often experience heightened sensitivity to sensory stimuli, such as light, sound, and smells, during attacks. This sensory sensitivity may be related to abnormal processing to sensory information in the brain.
