Fractures in the workplace — from falls, falling objects, vehicle incidents, or machinery — may be covered under WorkCover Queensland. SmartCare UrgentCare provides same-day fracture assessment, on-site X-ray, treatment, and full WorkCover documentation including certificate of capacity.

Onsite X-Ray — Diagnosis in the Same Visit

The key advantage of SmartCare UrgentCare for fracture assessment is onsite X-ray. When you attend a GP or after-hours clinic with a suspected fracture, you are typically sent to a separate radiology provider for imaging — adding hours or days to the diagnostic pathway.

At SmartCare UrgentCare, X-ray is available within the same clinic during the same visit. Your emergency specialist reviews the images, confirms the diagnosis, and begins management immediately. For eligible Medicare cardholders, X-ray is bulk billed.

What Happens When You Walk In

When you present to SmartCare UrgentCare with a suspected fracture, our team will:

• Assess the injury — clinical examination of the affected area, including checking circulation, sensation, and movement
• Arrange onsite X-ray if clinically indicated — images are taken and available within the same visit
• Confirm the diagnosis — your emergency specialist reviews the X-ray and explains the findings
• Provide initial management — immobilisation with a splint, sling, or cast as appropriate, along with pain management
• Develop a follow-up plan — including referral to an orthopaedic specialist or fracture clinic if required
• Issue WorkCover documentation if applicable — certificate of capacity, treatment reports

When to Call 000 Instead

Call 000 or go directly to your nearest Emergency Department if:

• Bone is visible through the skin (open fracture)
• The limb is deformed, pale, or cold below the injury — suggesting compromised blood supply
• You suspect a spinal injury — do not move the person
• The fracture resulted from major trauma such as a motor vehicle accident or fall from significant height
• You are experiencing numbness or inability to move the limb below the injury
