Every doctor at SmartCare UrgentCare is a Fellow of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine. Our team includes doctors who trained at the Queensland Children's Hospital and who have specialist interests in paediatric emergency medicine, paediatric procedural sedation, and paediatric pain management. Your child is assessed by a doctor whose primary specialisation is acute and urgent care.

Onsite X-Ray with Paediatric Protocols

If your child has had a fall, a sporting injury, or an impact injury and you suspect a fracture, our onsite X-ray can confirm or exclude the fracture during the same visit. We use paediatric-specific imaging protocols that minimise radiation dose while producing high-quality diagnostic images. Parents are welcome to stay with their child during the X-ray.

No Appointment — Walk In Any Time

Children's illness and injuries do not follow appointment schedules. SmartCare UrgentCare operates on a walk-in basis — open 7 days a week, including after school, evenings, weekends, school holidays, and public holidays. Walk in with your child whenever the need arises.

Ages We See

SmartCare UrgentCare sees children from 3 months of age. For newborns under 3 months with fever or illness, we recommend attending a hospital emergency department with paediatric capability, as very young infants may require specialist neonatal assessment.

After School and After Hours

The highest demand for children's urgent care is after school hours (3pm to 8pm) and on weekends — precisely when most GP clinics are closing or closed. SmartCare UrgentCare is open during these peak-demand periods every day of the week.

School Holidays

What to Bring

When bringing your child to SmartCare UrgentCare, please bring:

• Your child's Medicare card
• Any relevant medical history — allergies, medications, previous conditions
• A list of current medications if applicable
• For WorkCover-related injuries (e.g. work experience injuries): employer details
• For Defence families: DVA card or ADF identification if applicable

What to Expect During the Visit

We understand that visiting an urgent care clinic with a child can be stressful for both parent and child. Here is what to expect:

• You will be greeted at reception and asked for basic details about your child and the reason for the visit
• An emergency specialist doctor will assess your child — taking a history and performing a clinical examination
• If X-ray or pathology is needed, it is performed onsite during the same visit
• Your doctor will explain the diagnosis and management plan clearly — including what to watch for at home
• You will receive a discharge summary for your records and your GP
• The entire visit typically takes 30 to 60 minutes depending on the condition and whether imaging or testing is required

Fees

SmartCare UrgentCare is a private billing clinic. A consultation fee applies with a Medicare rebate for eligible cardholders. Onsite X-ray and pathology are bulk billed for eligible Medicare patients.

WORKCOVER

Facility fee waived for eligible WorkCover Queensland patients. Walk in with your employer's details.

DEFENCE & DVA

Facility fee waived for eligible ADF personnel and DVA White Card holders. Please advise our team on arrival.
