When to head to SmartCare UrgentCare

Cold and flu symptoms can spread quickly through daycares, schools, workplaces and families. Head to Urgent Care if symptoms include:

  • Fever that is persistent or hard to manage
  • Cough that is worsening or keeping you or your child awake
  • Sore throat, swollen glands or trouble swallowing
  • Ear pain, sinus pain or persistent congestion
  • Mild to moderate asthma or respiratory symptoms
  • Vomiting, diarrhoea or early signs of dehydration
  • A child who is drinking less or weeing less than usual
  • Symptoms affecting several family members at once

Important for babies:

If your baby is under 6 months old and has a fever of 38°C or higher, please go directly to the nearest Emergency Department or call 000.

What you can do now

Keep fluids up

Offer small, regular sips of water or oral rehydration solution, especially for children with fever, vomiting or diarrhoea.

Check symptoms

Note fever, cough, breathing changes, sore throat, vomiting, fluid intake, asthma symptoms, temperatures and how long everyone has been unwell.

When to go directly to the Emergency Department

For life-threatening symptoms, call 000 or attend your nearest Emergency Department.

  • Severe breathing difficulty
  • Struggling to speak or out-of-breath in the middle of a sentence
  • Blue lips, grey skin or severe drowsiness
  • Confusion, fainting, collapse or sudden deterioration
  • Seizure, unresponsiveness or hard to wake
  • A baby under 6 months old with a high fever
  • A baby or child who is seriously unwell
  • Signs of severe dehydration, such as little to no urination, weakness or inability to keep fluids down
