On-site Imaging and Pathology
X-Ray and imaging available on-site if required for assessment and bulk billed for eligible Medicare card holders.

Pain management, splinting, casting and immobilisation. Orthopaedic referral or follow up can be arranged when needed.
When to head to SmartCare UrgentCare
Fractures can happen after a fall, weekend sport, a workplace incident, direct impact or repeated stress on a bone. Visit for urgent care if you have:
- Pain after a fall, twist, collision or direct blow
- Swelling or bruising around the injured area
- Difficulty walking or putting weight on a leg, ankle or foot
- Trouble moving or using an arm, wrist, hand or joint
- Localised pain or tenderness over a bone
- A grinding or grating feeling with movement
- Pain that is getting worse instead of settling
- Persistent pain after running, jumping or repetitive activity
- A child who is distressed, guarding an injured area or refusing to use a limb

What you can do now
Keep the injured area still
Stop the activity and support the injured limb in the position you found it. Do not try to straighten a visibly deformed limb.
Use a wrapped cold pack
Place a cold pack wrapped in a clean cloth over the area to help with pain and swelling. Do not place ice directly against the skin.
Head straight in

Fracture care for adults and children
Fractures don’t always look dramatic. It can be a small crack from repetitive activity causing persistent localised pain. Or a more obvious break from a fall causing swelling, bruising and pain. Children can also experience partial fractures, or greenstick fractures, where the bone bends and cracks, but doesn’t completely break.
Assessment and treatment at SmartCare UrgentCare is based on the location, type and severity of the fracture, but could involve:
- Physical examination of the injured area
- On-site X-Ray
- Pain management
- Splinting, casting or other immobilisation
- Fracture reduction
- Orthopaedic or hospital referral
- Follow-up care and recommendations

Yes. Children with urgent, non-life-threatening injuries and suspected fractures can be assessed. If your child has visible bone, a badly deformed limb, loss of feeling, uncontrolled bleeding or was involved in major trauma, please go directly to Emergency or call 000.
Yes, an on-site X-Ray can be arranged if required during your assessment and diagnostics are bulk billed for eligible Medicare card holders.
No, you do not need a referral or to make an appointment to visit SmartCare UrgentCare for a suspected fracture. We are located in Springfield Central and welcome adults, children and families from Springfield, Ripley, Redbank Plains, Goodna, Ipswich and surrounding South-West Brisbane communities.
If hospital admission is required, our team can coordinate your transfer and handover.

- Bone visible through the skin
- An open wound over a suspected fracture
- Severe or uncontrollable bleeding
- A limb that is visibly pointing at an unusual angle
- A pale, blue or cold hand, foot, arm or leg
- Severe numbness, loss of feeling or weakness
- Severe pain with rapidly increasing swelling or tightness
- A fracture caused by a vehicle accident, fall from height or other major trauma
- Collapse, breathing difficulty, confusion or altered consciousness
- Open fractures and injuries affecting blood flow or sensation need hospital-level emergency care
