Emergency Specialist-Led Care
Assessment and treatment for urgent, non-life-threatening illness and injury by an Emergency Specialist-led team.
On-site Imaging and Pathology
X-ray, CT, ultrasound and pathology can be arranged on site if required during your assessment, and diagnostics are bulk billed for eligible Medicare card holders.
Coordinated Care and Cost
There are no upfront fees for eligible DVA card holders and care is coordinated with existing GP or veteran care providers.
When to Head to SmartCare UrgentCare
Defence personnel, veterans and their families may need care for injuries or illness that should be assessed within hours, not days. SmartCare UrgentCare can assess:
- Training, sport or physical readiness injuries
- Sprains, strains and suspected fractures
- Back, neck, shoulder or joint pain
- Cuts, wounds, burns or lacerations
- Eye or ear injuries
- Acute infections or illness needing assessment
- Sudden pain that is concerning but not severe
- Mild to moderate breathing or respiratory symptoms
- Abdominal pain that is concerning but not severe
- Symptoms needing imaging, pathology or treatment advice

SmartCare UrgentCare is located in Springfield Central, and is 27.4km from the RAAF Base in Amberley. It takes 20 to 25 mins in typical traffic, usually routing via the Centenary Motorway and National Highway 15. We are proudly here to support Defence personnel, veterans and families in Greater Springfield, Ipswich and the Amberley defence community.
For eligible DVA card holders there are no upfront costs as fees are waived. For serving members the fees are billed via Bupa ADF Health Services and the facility fee is included.
Yes. Clinical summaries, investigation results and treatment details can be provided to support shared care with your GP, AVHS clinic or veteran healthcare provider.
Yes. SmartCare UrgentCare can assess urgent, non-life-threatening injuries such as sprains, strains, suspected fractures, back pain, joint pain, wounds and soft tissue injuries.
When to go directly to the Emergency Department
Go directly to your nearest Emergency Department or call 000 if you have:
- Severe chest pain or suspected heart attack
- Sudden weakness, facial drooping or difficulty speaking
- Severe breathing difficulty
- Major trauma or high-impact injury
- Severe or uncontrolled bleeding
- Collapse, fainting or loss of consciousness
- Severe burns or burns to the face, hands, genitals or airway
- A limb that is cold, pale, blue or numb
- Sudden paralysis, numbness or severe weakness
- Symptoms that feel unsafe to manage outside hospital
